Friday Jewelry Find: Red Ruby Birthstone Pendant for July Birthdays

Each Friday we’ll post a “find” from the top, new and up-coming Simon G. Jewelry collections. Sometimes we’ll even show you collections that haven’t been officially released yet to get your feedback. As part of our social Inside Circle, we value your opinion on our handcrafted jewelry collections and want to include you in our design process as much as possible. Read all Friday Finds here.

Happy Birthday to all our friends in our Simon G. Inner Circle who are having a birthday this month! We did a little digging for you on the origin of rubies, July's birthstone.

Rubies are considered "the ultimate red gemstone" and were long considered the most valuable gemstone. In the ancient language of Sanskrit, rubies were called “ratnaraj” or “king of gems” and in ancient Burma, warriors wore rubies in the belief that it would make them invincible. Today, rubies are most famously found in Mynamar (Burma), but also are mined in Afghanistan, Kenya, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Thailand. Ruby's rich color speaks of love and passion - the perfect gift of love.

We chose his red ruby Simon G. pendant as the perfect birthstone gift of love for this week's Friday Jewelry Find!

This ruby and diamond pendant is made with 18K, two-tone gold (white and yellow) with .15 tcw diamonds surrounding a .63 tcw ruby center stone and an additional .02 tcw in yellow diamonds. It is style number MP1299 and retails for approximately $1,320. You can view further details and inquire about this pendant on SimonGJewelry.com.

Rubies are the red variety of the mineral Corundum, the second hardest natural mineral known to mankind, next to diamonds. Rubies are the most durable gemstone! You can clean your ruby with mild dish soap, using a toothbrush to scrub behind the stone where dust can collect.

Happy Friday (and happy birthday)!
